It was a whirlwind second half of the Scouting year for Troop 376! The time flew by and, naturally, it rained a lot! But, as 376 has proven time and again, we don’t let that stop us from having some amazing events and a fantastic time.

Since the new year, we’ve coordinated:

  • A winter lean-to campout in January where the Scouts learned about emergency shelter building
  • Our 3rd annual Ping Pong Night (with special guests, the Webelos & Arrow of Light Scouts from Pack 1)
  • A second winter campout in February (cabin/tenting) focused on hiking, advancement, and “Leave No Trace” principles
  • Our annual Bowling Night (with special guests, the Webelos & Arrow of Light Scouts from Pack 1)
  • An educational event for the Cubs of Pack 1 about Fire Safety that was featured on ABC7’s annual “Operation Save A Life” special (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRrnmFsElDk)
  • A March campout in Boston where Scouts explored the Freedom Trail
  • The recognition of our two newest Eagle Scouts, and numerous other Scout achievements at our March Court of Honor
  • An April campout at Alpine, NJ featuring indoor rock climbing and a historic hike up and down the scenic Palisades
  • Our 12th annual trip to Annapolis, MD for the STEM Merit Badge Jamboree held at the US Naval Academy
  • Our annual Dutch Oven Cookoff (congrats to our New Scout patrol on their victory!)
  • A fascinating campout at Gettysburg, PA where Scouts learned about one of the most pivotal battlegrounds of the US Civil War
  • Serving as Color Guard for both the Somers Memorial Day ceremony (where our new Troop Bugler, Matthew S., also played Taps ), and the Bicentennial Celebration of the Elephant Hotel
  • Our 3rd Annual “Father’s Day Campout” at Durland Scout Reservation, running a Fishing Derby and providing lunch for Somers Pack 1

On top of all this, we launched Troop 376G – an all-female sister Troop to 376B. We hope to see more girls in our community explore the many rewarding experiences that the Scouting America program has to offer.

As we approach our year-end Court of Honor / BBQ, we want to convey our appreciation to all of our Scouts for showing their Scout Spirit throughout this amazing year. We also want to acknowledge our Charter Organization, the Somers Lions Club, for their sponsorship, as well as the active parents who have helped make all of this possible. Scouting is a unique and incredibly valuable program for youth (especially today!) – and it couldn’t happen without the time and efforts of these dedicated volunteers. THANK YOU!
