The 2024-25 Scouting year for Somers Troop 376 got off to a great start as we held our first campout of the year at Durland Scout Reservation in Putnam Valley, NY. Situated at the idyllic Site 40 overlooking Clear Lake, we enjoyed perfect weather for this start-of-Autumn event.

As we welcome our Troop 376 family back, this Scouting year promises some new things as well as some familiar old favorites.

On the “familiar favorites” side, our Troop has two signature events lined up in October. We will be camping on Block Island (an absolute favorite of Scouts and adults alike) and participating in the West Point Orienteering Weekend event at Lake Frederick. We have more awesome events lined up for the year as well, including a planned campout at Gettysburg and an exploration of the Freedom Trail in Boston.

On the “new” side this year, the Troop welcomes a new Committee Chair, Mr. Carlson, who replaces the former Committee Chair (now Scoutmaster), Mr. Schilkraut. On the agenda for this year are numerous ideas for how Troop 376 can contribute even more to our community. This includes finding new ways to support our Charter Organization, the Somers Lions Club, as well as our amazing Somers Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) who have been outstanding, consistent supporters of Troop 376 for years.

We are looking forward to what promises to be a great year for Scouting in Somers! If you or someone you know are interested in learning more about our Troop, please reach out via our Contact Us page – we’d love to hear from you!
